This partly explains why BJP leaders seem so ill-at-ease, almost apologetic in front of the media (the incredible hostilities of the media might be another reason). However, they do need to clear up the ideological cobwebs. Practially, they have always been pro-business (if somewhat protectionist, due to their support base). However, that is no the impression one gathers while reading their constitution. Over there, they read out the routine platitudes and nods to socialism (Must be noted that socialism in Indian political parlances has an almost sacred status!)

Again on Hindutva, the BJP constitution doesnt once mention the word "Hindutva" or even "Hindu"- yet in the mind of its supporters and many of its party members, there are no doubts whatsoever about whether the party worries about Hindus or not. Ths creates a dichotomy and leads to confusion and the BJP leaders keeping mum.

On the other hand, the RSS doesnt suffer from such confusion. It clearly states its ideal as "...to carry the nation to the pinnacle of glory through organizing the entire society and ensuring the protection of Hindu Dharma." One fails to see what could be the problem here.Abhishek Thakurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08373538480569988799noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6138082354348831474.post-38285228977448845272015-07-20T03:32:58.266-07:002015-07-20T03:32:58.266-07:00I have a theory, that the reason why the certain s...I have a theory, that the reason why the certain sentiments are being hushed up or brandished communal is because it goes against basic market economics. In the last few decades several economically marginalised segments of the population have now crossed over to the 'Great Indian Middle Class'. This has given them a power to purchase "things", and thus it makes sense for liberal capitalists to keep their interests intact.
In the long run, religion or morality will lose out to market share.
At the risk of sounding bigoted, the truth is, that if we observe the trends in the last few decades, and compare them to today, for instance, the festival of Eid was not the least grand as it is today. Prominent leaders have wished people happiness on the festival, which in itself is not a bad thing. But it does show that there is a market today, where it is not just diwali, where the market was open, but now Eid as well. So they encourage people to go out, celebrate, unite, and Buy.
We are all puppets in the grand scheme of the great god of capitalism. And we will all buy our own selves out. :(Vitasta Rainahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08002342546527092806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6138082354348831474.post-59460512768098255312015-07-19T08:39:28.946-07:002015-07-19T08:39:28.946-07:00Four days and readers are speechless on this piece...Four days and readers are speechless on this piece. Why? Possibilities: don't care what are written; or, too well-known to elicit comment; or, shockingly true but helpless to do anything about it.
Meanwhile likes of Barkha Dutt and Amartya Sen are having a jolly time on NDTV ridiculing the govt appointments on cultural, educational, academic key-grounds. Still, counterweights like KE are kept unused by the govt. Pity, a kind of left-hand proof of the situation depicted in this piece! A vicious circle...Shankar Sharanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05302753258206444854noreply@blogger.com
